Local Businesses Invited To Sign Up For Free Net Zero Support

February 16, 2025 By //  by Des Ingham Leave a Comment

In an interesting initiative, local businesses are being invited to sign up for free net zero support, courtesy of the Mid South West (MSW) Region’s Net Zero Transformation Programme, which is being funded by Innovate UK.

They are promoting the scheme at an SME Big Breakfast Briefing in Cookstown on Thursday 6th March. And they want any small to medium businesses who have not yet signed up for this funding to come along and learn how the Programme could help them. There are funded places still available in the Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering, Agri-food and Construction Sectors.

Running A Detailed Audit Of Participating Businesses

There is a Carbonfit team who are there to guide any businesses that want to sign up to ensure that they reach all the goals that they target. They help with such matters as running a detailed audit of a business to see what their initial carbon footprint is. Then they help to put a plan in place to reduce this footprint over a period of time, implementing effective sustainability measures.

In an article on the Northern Ireland World website, Annemarie Roddy, who is an Associate Director of Carbonfit, is quoted as saying:

“SMEs participating in the MSW Net Zero programme have discovered practical ways to cut energy bills by 10-20%, helping to offset the impact of recent energy price increases. By taking action now, businesses can enhance efficiency, reduce their carbon footprint, and stay competitive in a changing market.”

Sustainability A Key Pillar To Transform The Economy

And in the same article, Kevin Savage, Chair of the MSW Region Governance Steering Group, is quoted as saying:

“Sustainability is a key pillar in transforming the economy in the Mid South West Region so it’s important that businesses are not left behind in the race to net zero.

“We know there are ever increasing demands on small and medium business owners struggling with rising costs. This programme takes away a lot of the hassle by showing you how to make more sustainable choices, helping to lower costs while also giving you a strategic edge in securing contracts.

“I would urge any local business owner operating in one of the target sectors to attend this briefing and secure one of the funded places available.”

Businesses that go out of their way to cut their carbon footprint and go green as quickly as possible will no doubt reap the benefits in future months and years. A carbon free future awaits us and the opportunities are endless for the ones that embrace this new way of working.
