A recent study by Hays, the recruitment specialist, has found that job seekers applying for work are less likely to use AI (artificial intelligence) tools to help them with the application process than other parts of the UK. And the same is true for workers, who on the whole do not use AI tools as often as other workers in the UK.
Just 11% of people applying for jobs in Northern Ireland use AI tools during the process, whereas 18% of people across the rest of the UK do. However this may well change in the near future as the use of AI is growing at a rapid pace across all sections of society.
Businesses Beginning To See Benefits Of Utilising AI
Businesses are certainly beginning to see the benefits of using AI tools. For instance 7% according to this survey are using them to scan CV’s and score candidates during the recruitment process. And 28% of NI businesses say they will be using technology in the near future to help them recruit staff.
The survey by Hays was a thorough one with nearly 12,000 professionals from right across the UK involved in the process. 360 of these professionals were from NI.
Young Workers Reaping The Rewards Of Using AI
John Moore, managing director of Hays in Northern Ireland, is quoted in an article in the Belfast Telegraph, saying:
“Although utilising AI in the workplace differs across organisations and sectors, it’s promising to see that our future workforce is taking advantage of how AI might support them in different ways.
“As our research shows, young workers are not only reaping the rewards of AI within their current role, but also when applying to secure a new position. Still, it’s crucial not to rely on AI, but to be able to articulate yourself in an interview setting for example, where the focus will be on people skills that AI arguably cannot compete with.
“As both organisations and staff pursue plans to increase their use of AI, transparency is really important, so jobseekers and employers alike are not in the dark about whether AI has been used during the application and assessment process.”
It is beyond doubt that the growth of AI is going to change the way we work to a hugely significant extent, so the quicker that we embrace and learn from this new technology, the more chance businesses will stay at the forefront of their particular sector.
